Velkommen til
New Classes start the week of September 13, 2010 This fall (2010) the Norwegian Language and Culture Program (NLCP) will continue to provide opportunities for learners of many backgrounds to explore and nurture their connections to norsk and Norge. In addition to a variety of language classes targeted to meet the diverse needs and prior experiences of our students, the NLCP also invites you to come to filmaften, an evening of Norwegian film. This event is free of charge and made possible with the help of volunteers. All films are på norsk with English subtitles unless otherwise mentioned. New this fall: • Sett i gang review class • Thematic approach to our advanced level classes • Monthly samtalestund • Genealogy sessions Please feel free to contact Krista Marie Schweppe, the NLCP Program Administrator at norsk@mindekirken.org with any questions you might have regarding our program. Velkommen skal du være! see FALL CLASS SCHEDULE 2010* updated Aug. 25, 2010 Kanskje det er på tida at du blir med?
I encourage each one of you to extend your norsk experience beyond your class, by coming to a filmaften and/or joining us for an afternoon of barnefilmer. Please feel free to contact me if you know of someone who should be mailed a brochure. And, don’t forget to watch the webpage for updates and postings. Velkommen skal du være! Vennlig hilsenKrista Schweppe, program administrator Mindekirken’s background Mindekirken was organized in 1922 in post-WWI American society. At that time it was not always acceptable to be anything but 100% American. For many, this meant sacrificing their morsmål, or native language. A group of Norwegians recognized the importance of maintaining their language and culture and joined together to establish the Mindekirken community. Today, Mindekirken is the only church in the Twin Cities where Norwegian is used in worship services. The Language and Culture Program Our program consists of language and culture classes. The language classes meet for two hours each week over a period of ten weeks. A primary goal of our language program is promoting communication through the development of speaking and listening skills. Explanations in English, together with reading and writing exercises will be used to help support and achieve the primary goal. Books and Prices Class materials are not included in course tuition. Materials such as textbooks, workbooks, dictionaries, grammar books, and instructional packets are available for purchase at Mindekirken. Registration and Payment We strongly encourage advance registration and reserve the right to limit class size. The cost of tuition is $155 for adult and children’s language classes and $80 for cultural classes. Registration forms and checks can be sent to: Mindekirken Norwegian Language and Cultural Program 924 East 21st Street, Minneapolis, Minnesota
