The following can be separate or combined positions:
Organist:
1) Playing the organ (prelude, postlude, hymns, offertory, and liturgy) for two
regular services per Sunday (English service at 9 a.m. and Norwegian service at
11 a.m.).
Note: English liturgy is standard ELCA liturgy. Norwegian liturgy will require
becoming familiar with some basic Norwegian liturgical phrases and music at the
least.
2) Playing the organ for additional special worship services at, for example,
Christmas and Lent/Easter times. Some of these may be evening services.
3) Assisting Pastor, as needed, in Sunday hymn selections,
and Choir Director in Church choir performances with organ and perhaps piano,
for example.
4) Assisting, as needed, in coordinating of musical activities at Church - as,
for example, serving on Music Committee.
5) Possible membership on the Leiv Eriksson International
Festival Committee.
6) Piano skills, as solo pianist, accompanist, or both, are
a strong positive for this position.
Organist will also have right of first refusal to play organ for all weddings,
funerals, etc. at Church.
This is a part-time position.
Choir Director:
1) Directing the adult Choir. The Choir currently sings for one service per
Sunday(generally the Norwegian), occasionally for both services, and
occasionally also for special services, such as Lent or Christmas. The Choir
rehearses one evening per week (currently Thursday from 7:00 – 8:30). The Choir
has, over the years, primarily sung anthems in Norwegian and English, but has
also ventured into a number of other languages (primarily European). Proficiency
in Norwegian not required, but acquiring some basic familiarity with the
language over time will be helpful and rewarding. More important, at least
initially, will be proficiency in classical choral direction, and motivation.
2) Planning choral music for regular Sunday and special services, coordinating
the same with Organist and Pastor.
3) Assisting, as needed, in coordinating of musical activities at Church - as,
for example, serving on Music Committee.
4) Possible membership on the Leiv Eriksson International
Festival Committee.
This is a part-time position.
