Fantastic Treasure Chest Sale and Lutefisk Dinner
By Pastor jens Arne Dale
November is our special stewardship month with a focus on talent, time
and treasure. And indeed, it has not only been talk. In addition to
the “normal congregational life”, we have had two major events where
many talents have been used and time spent.
Kirkering has worked the whole year through to produce things which were
sold at the Treasure Chest sale. The Lutefisk Dinner also takes a lot
of time to prepare. Congratulations and thanks to the generals, Reidun
Mauritzen and Judy Kerssen, and to the great corps of volunteers who
also have made these events possible again this year. To me, this was a
first-time experience, and it looked all well organized. Ladies behind
every sales table in beautiful bunads gave the Treasure Chest a very
special signature. The cakes and open-faced sandwiches from the kitchen
may be the best served in the Twin Cities! This must be some of the
best of our cultural heritage.
Lutefisk is also a part of the Norwegian heritage. On the average, each
Norwegian ate 1.3 kg (almost 3 lbs.) lutefisk in the year 2001. I don’t
know how much the almost 500 lutefisk diners consumed at Mindekirken on Nov. 16, but it looked like they appreciated the food very much.
Both the Treasure Chest sale and the Lutefisk Dinner are good examples
of how to work together as one body. Every worker has his or her
specific task, and as a whole it’s amazing to see what is accomplished.
These work-fellowships are also important fundraisers for the church,
and it’s a beautiful way to serve in the vineyard of the Lord.
And there is still more to come. On Sat., Dec. 7, Alle Kvinner Mission
has their annual Christmas Bake Sale and Rømmegrøt Luncheon. Don’t miss it!
