Sunday morning services are the heartbeat of Mindekirken. We meet the Lord by means of grace, and enjoy the fellowship with each other; in the sanctuary and downstairs at church coffee. The 2002 program of Mindekirken has followed the same pattern as previous years, with services, concerts, classes, fundraisers, Open house, choir, groups and committees. 2002 has been a year of approx. 10% growth of membership and service attendance. We are grateful to God and people for what we have achieved in this 80th year of the congregation’s life. Worship Services Pr. Michael Harty was guest preacher when the 80th anniversary of Mindekrken was celebrated on Jan. 13, 2002. The last service and farewell party for Pr Ole Amund and Jorid Gillebo was on April 7, and the installation of Pr. Jens Arne Dale on April 21. A Children’s Bible was presented to those who were baptized 4-8 years ago, on Aug. 25. On All Saints’ day, Nov. 3, the names of those who had passed away last year were read and a candle lit for each. On Oct. 6, we had a full Swedish service with Pr. Bernhard Ehrling (LEIF), and Klubb 500 invited the Barbary Coast Dixieland Band to do the music for the service on Dec. 8. Pr. Dale has preached in English at the family services and made illustrations for the sermon by painting. The organist, choir, and soloists have contributed to our services in a wonderful way. The average attendance at the services has shown a slight increase. Education There is a small Sunday School led by Bob Worrall during the 11 AM service. We had four confirmands for both semesters. Once a month, they participated at a joint confirmation program at Central Lutheran Church, once a month they met at Mindekirken The Tuesday Prayer Group has been transformed into a Bible Study and prayer group, attended by 2-7 people. There have been some lectures, for instance pastor’s talk at Open house about the service and the sacraments. Membership There were 7 baptisms, 6 funerals, 2 confirmations, 21 new full members, 21 new associate members. 2002 has been a year of grace and growth for which we are grateful to God and to people.
