Don't Miss out on October's events!
Pr. Jens Dale
I'm really looking forward to the month of October and the Leiv Eriksson
International Festival (LEIF).
Sunday worship services, and Tuesday Open Houses will feature Nordic
culture in a special way. Check out the backpage calendar.
At this time I would like to highlight the only LEIF event which will
take place outside of Mindekirken. The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra
will do a Scandinavian program at St. Michael's Lutheran Church (9201
Normandale Blvd, Bloomington) on Sun., Oct. 12 at 3:00 p.m. At 2:15
p.m., the combined Norwegian male choirs of the Twin Cities will be
offering a 'pre-concert' of Norwegian and Swedish choral music including
favorites such as Nidelven and Når fjordene blåner.
The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra will open with Symphony #3 by Jean
Sibelius. The next piece features Minnesota Orchestra trombonist Kari
Markus Sundström, a native Finn, in a concerto by Launy Grondahl of
Denmark. The all-Grieg second half presents the musical story of mischievous
adventures of Peer Gynt, including the famous Solveigs Song and In the
Hall of the Mountain King, narrated by Minnesota Public Radio host Mindy
Ratner. The concert will conclude with Grieg's Landkjenning, featuring
the male choruses. |
