Family service with Finnish songs on Oct 26 Children from the Finnish Language School of Minnesota will sing at the Family service on Oct.26, 11.00 AM. The school was established in September last year at the Kinderplatz in Uptown. Children of Finnish descendants meet every second Saturday to learn the Finnish language and heritage. Choir leader Elina Ruppert will also sing a few songs. She grew up in Finland and she is a well-known singer and songwriter with several recordings behind her. Joining in the hymns for the service will be members of
Kirkkokuoro II, a Finnish-American Church Choir comprised of members of the
local community singing sacred and patriotic music at events during the fall.
The director of the choir is Paul Niemisto, leader of the brass septet Ameriikan
Poijat and associate professor of music at St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN. Watch out for Finnish treats at the coffee hour! New Finnish American hymnbook On October 26, the 9:30 – 10:30 AM Adult Forum in the
Fellowship Hall will be a combined lecture and hymn singing. Led by Kirkkokuoro
II, the Finnish American Church Choir, the forum will provide an opportunity to
become acquainted with the Finnish hymn tradition and to sing several hymns from
a new collection of translated hymns that were part of the Suomi Synod of the
Finnish church in the U.S. A brief background will be given about the hymns, and
participants will have the chance to sing in both English and Finnish. |
