What a
festive day Mindekirken’s celebration of syttende
mai was on Sun., May 14! My
family was present and thoroughly enjoyed the morning and afternoon celebration.
Not only did the rain hold off for the parade and outdoor games, the sun
even peeked out! Thanks to all who
helped make the day great by: providing
special music in worship; organizing and playing in the parade band;
providing food; decorating; arranging
the police escort; running games;
cleaning-up; etc.
Prior to this year, I’d never celebrated syttende mai.
This year I celebrated it on four different days over a five day period!

May 23, we wrapped up the ‘05-’06 Tuesday Open House season.
(See Marilyn Sorensen’s article.) I
would just like to add special thanks to Marilyn Sorensen for her leadership as
chair of the Tuesday Open House Committee and for all her hard work as point
person for the weekly programs. It’s
been a very good and successful season. BIG NEWS:
Pentecost Sunday, June 4 (Pinsedag) will be a big day at Mindekirken as
the congregation votes on calling a new Norwegian pastor!
Members and Associate Members of the church have recently received two
letters. A letter from President
Cindy Hatlevik announced a Congregational Meeting on Sunday, June 4 at 12:30
p.m. where a presentation on the Norwegian pastoral candidate (including a video
sermon) will precede a congregational vote on whether or not to extend a Letter
of Call to this candidate. Also
announced was an informational preview of the prospective candidate (preview of
sermon) at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 28. Another
letter, from Call Committee Chair Robert J. Hanson, briefly introduced the
candidate selected by the Call Committee and unanimously endorsed by the Council
at its May 9 meeting. Mindekirken’s
leaders invite your continued prayers for this process and the Congregational
Meeting on June 4. On Sunday,
June 4, we will also have a guest Norwegian preacher.
Pastor Per Kivle (Gracia Grindal’s cousin visiting from Norway) will
preach in Norwegian at 11:00 and in English at 9:00. Interim Pastor Bruce Arnevik |
