Goodbye to the Pastor - Velkommen til Ny Presten. By Magne A. Hatlevik April will be a month of farewell, goodbye, so long, tears and see-you-later to pastor Ole Amund Gillebo and his wife Jorid. It will also be the month of welcome to the new pastor Jens Arne Dale. Pastor Gillebo has served at
Mindekirken for more then 2 years. It really seems like yesterday that several
members from Mindekirken and I met Ole Amund and Jorid at the Twin Cities
International Airport. I had the full size Chevy conversion van at that time and
I was a usual suspect when someone or something needed to be transported. After
the initial hugs, hallo and singing Nationalsangen "Ja vi elsker dette
landet", I loaded all luggage, Ole Amund and Jorid into the van and drove
them to the apartment on Parklawn ave. I remember he told me that he was not used to writing his sermons. As I understand, in Norway he would just outline what he was going to preach with keywords. But he understood that here at Mindekirken, we need the sermon typed on a computer in both Norwegian and English for the translations that we hand out at the services and for publishing on the web site. I have known Pastor Gillebo for more than two years now. During this time, I have always looked forward to meeting with him and working with him on different church projects. When I needed guidance or help with any of these projects, I knew that Ole Amund would always be there with the answer I needed. And if he didn’t know, I was always entitled to Jorid’s opinions. She would remind me that we both come from Sunnmøre and people from Sunnmøre have to stick together. I am not so sure that I would consider Nordfjord part of Sunnmøre, but that is another discussion. Ole Amund will preach his last sermon at Mindekirken on Sunday, April 7, 2002 at 9 and 11 AM. There will be a farewell Lunch/Coffee hour in honor of the Gillebo’s, in the Fellowship hall following the 11am service. The next day, he and Jorid will fly back to Norway with a three-day stopover on Iceland to see the sights there and enjoy a swim in "Den blå lagune". I think you will agree with me in saying that they will be missed. Almost at the same time that the Gillebo’s are doing their last rounds of good-bye’s, Our new pastor, Jens Dale will arrive. His flight will touch down on Friday, April 5 at about 3 PM. Arrangements are being made for those that want to greet the new pastor as he is arriving. Because of the difficulties in meeting at the airport, we are looking at an alternate location. More about this will be announced at Mindekirken and on the web site www.mindekirken.org by March 24, 2002. April 14, 2002 will be the first
service conducted by pastor Dale, and the following Sunday (April 21) there will
be an installation ceremony at both the English and Norwegian Services. The Rev.
David A. Wangaard, one of the assistants to Minneapolis Area Synod Bishop Craig
E. Johnson, will lead this ceremony. A special coffee in honor of Pastor Dale’s
installation will follow the Norwegian service. Klubb 500 sponsors this coffee
hour. That will be followed by Mindekirken’s Choir Soloists Concert at 2pm. As
you can see, Mindekirken is where things are happening. |
