Summer Programs at Mindekirken.

By Magne A. Hatlevik

Cultural events featuring visiting groups, entertainers and choirs from Norway are some of the factors that make Mindekirken such a special church in the USA. We have many such events here all through the year. This summer we have three events that I will mention.

On July 9th, the church had a visit from Leirvik Mannskor (Male Chorus) from the island of Stord on the West Coast of Norway between Bergen and Stavanger. Their enjoyable concert consisted of religious music and a variety of Norwegian national-romantic songs. It was surprisingly well attended considering the hot weather.

The next concert event will have been held before you read this. We are all looking forward to the visit by the Habbestad Family Ensemble on Thursday July 18th . This is a repeat visit by the Habbestads. I am sure many of you can remember their inspired performance at Mindekirken last year.

Lastly, we are looking forward to the concert by Det Norske solistkor on August 8th at 7:30pm. This is a top-class ensemble dedicated to the performance of choral music. I hope as many of you as possible can make your way to Mindekirken that evening. Please visit out website www.mindekirken.org for more information about this concert.

And then there are the volunteers. These concerts would not have been possible without the great help from all the volunteers at Mindekirken. This summer we formed a summer concert group of volunteers led by Inez Jukulen. This group has done a great job with all the tasks that make a great concert possible. These tasks include planning, ushering, greeting visitors, handling the donations, preparing refreshments for the social hour after the concert and making sure the sound system works right. Without naming anyone in particular, Thanks to all of you.
