Members of Mindekirken should be familiar with this term. In this case I am talking about the City-County Federal Credit Union that plans to soon start building on the vacant lot just to the north and west of Mindekirken’s annex building. While I am writing this, the question still remains if they will be our good neighbors or not. As you all know, on October 19th of this year, I called a special Congregational meeting to hear the presentation (again) by representatives of the Credit Union and to vote on the ‘Declaration of Easements and Covenants’ that will govern the (good) relationship between Mindekirken and the Credit Union. Unfortunately this meeting was recessed because members began leaving and we lost the required number of voting members necessary to have quorum. Although we could not conclude with a vote, I think it was a good meeting because it made us think about the issues at hand. The Credit Union has a great vision for this neighborhood. From the conversations I’ve heard, I believe Mindekirken thinks so too and wants to be a part of that plan. But, to make sure we had a good understanding of the proposal, we hired an outside legal advisor with experience in these matters to review the contract and work with us in the negotiations. Already, we are following up on some valuable advice that will help us forge a solid relationship with the Credit Union into the future. Today I have called another special Congregational meeting for November 23rd. My hopes for this meeting is that the Congregation will approve a motion that will, in cooperation with our legal advisor, allow us to complete the final negotiations with the Credit Union and approve the agreement with our new Good Neighbor to the North.
