2003 Congregation Council I would like to present the 2003 Congregation Council that was elected at the annual meeting on Feb.2, 2003. The 2003 council already met at a mini retreat on Sat. evening Feb. 8. Thank you to Kari Fosse for hosting this mini retreat. At this meeting we presented and discussed some of the ground rules as they apply to "Robert's Rules of Order" and the By-laws of Mindekirken. Here is the current congregation council: President: Magne A. Hatlevik Board of Deacons: Lena Schjoelberg, Chair Board of Trustees: Priscilla Sorknes, Chair Pastor: The Council is divided into three groups: Officers, Deacons, Trustees – and of course the Pastor, who is also a voting member of the Council. The Council meets monthly, at 7 PM on the second Tuesday of each month. In addition, the Executive Committee meets one more time each month, typically at 6PM Tuesday two weeks before the Council meets. The executive committee includes the officers, the chair of the Trustees, the chair of the Deacons and the Pastor. The two Boards, the Deacons and the Trustees, have a Chair elected from within by its members, and also a secretary to take and prepare minutes from their meetings. Each of the boards meets at 6 PM on the evening of the Council meeting, with the purpose of preparing resolutions for presentation to the full Council. The Deacons deal with the spiritual matters of the
church – the worship service, Missions. They arrange for pastoral coverage
when our regular pastor is on vacation or otherwise unavailable. The Trustees concern themselves with the areas in which finance or property are involved with the church. This ranges from preparing our annual Financial Guidelines, to examining the monthly Financial Statements, to counting the Sunday offering each week. All these board members are donating their time and
talent to serve on the congregation council. They were elected by the
congregation to deal with issues that are important to the members of the
church. If you have opinions on a matter regarding Mindekirken, the people to
talk to about it are the ones on the list above. |
