Credit Union Construction Has Begun in Parking Lots

The City-County Federal Credit Union construction has begun. All of you that have been at Mindekirken the last couple of weeks have seen the progress.

First the asphalt on our parking lot disappeared. Next there was a construction fence erected around the entire parking lot. Just about at that time I started giving "parking lot forecasts and directions" in my weekly announcements during the Norwegian Service.

Now there is a big hole where our North parking lot used to be. That is where the central part of the drainage system is going to be placed.

So how is this affecting life at Mindekirken? Luckily the Credit Union waited until after the Syttende Mai celebration before they started the project. In addition other regular scheduled events like the Language Classes and the Tuesday Open House are on Summer Break and the need for parking is less. We still need parking during the Sunday Services, Special Events and Concerts.

When you come to Mindekirken you should first check if the parking lot gate on the West Side of the Annex building is open. If so, you may be able to park on the gravel lot on the West and North side of the annex building. There will be room far ca. 20 cars there. Should this parking fill up, you have to use street parking in the neighborhood. If you park on the street, you can enter the annex building and the elevator lobby from 21st St. There is a wooden ramp for handicap access, and a doorbell.

Mindekirken will be open during construction. I received a construction schedule from Robert Scherer, the construction foreman. According to this schedule, it looks like the excavation, drainage system and parking lot phase of the project will be done in September this year. I have posted the schedule on the bulletin board in the office hallway. However, be advised that this schedule is subject to changes and delays.

These are exciting times for Mindekirken. Soon we will have a fresh new parking lot with greatly improved rainwater drainage away from Mindekirken.
