Interim Pastor I have two
important announcements that affect the future of Mindekirken.
As Pastor Dale has returned to Norway, there have been many discussions
regarding calling a new pastor and what arrangements must be made until that
person arrives. After
consulting with David Wangaard, our Synod representative, the council believes
Mindekirken will be best served by calling an Interim Pastor. I’m pleased to
announce that the council has voted to call Pastor Bruce C. Arnevik to serve
Mindekirken as an Interim Pastor until a regularly called pastor can arrive from
Norway. Pastor Arnevik is from
Minneapolis and will begin work on Dec. 1st. Although he
is not fluent, Pastor Arnevik has taken Norwegian language classes in college
and feels that he can be ‘refreshed’ enough to eventually handle the
liturgy. He is excited to reacquaint
himself and his family with their Norwegian heritage.
Interim
Pastoral Ministry is a special calling – Interim Pastors do not simply ‘fill in’, but are trained to work with
congregations in times of transition. The
council is eager to work with Pastor Arnevik to explore opportunities that will
allow Mindekirken to keep pace with our recent growth and surge of activities.
Pastor Arnevik’s work will also focus on preparing the congregation to
enter the call process and act as an adviser to the Call Committee. This
brings us to my second announcement. Having faithfully served the congregation,
the members of the Call Committee decided it was time for a ‘fresh team’ and
have resigned. We sincerely thank
them for all their hard work. The Council has appointed the following members to
take their place: Robert J. Hanson,
Magne Hatlevik, Anita Kerssen, Darlene Nordos, Hans Sandom and Kari Torkelson. In
closing, the council believes that Pastor Arnevik is a uniquely qualified person
who will provide stable pastoral support and partner with us to prepare for the
future of Mindekirken. Please join
me in welcoming Pastor Arnevik to our congregation, support him in his efforts
