Godt Nytt År!! As I am writing this, it is almost Christmas. Before I forget, I want to say thanks to volunteers that once again helped make this Christmas season special at Mindekirken. It started on Saturday December 11 when a beautiful fresh 17-foot Christmas tree was brought to the church sanctuary. This Christmas tree and two other Christmas trees placed in the Fellowship Hall and the lobby were tastefully decorated. The next day about 200 people attended the traditional Santa Lucia Pageant and church service. What a great start to the Christmas Season! So here we are at the end of the year and I’d like to reflect on the last 12 months and look ahead to the New Year. Was it a good year at Mindekirken? One of the most noticeable changes at Mindekirken this year has been the construction of the City-County Federal Credit Union building on the lot just north of Mindekirken’s Annex. This project has been the source of some frustration for many visitors at Mindekirken because what little parking we had left filled up fast and they had to find street parking. I want to apologize for this inconvenience, but in the end this project will benefit the neighborhood and Mindekirken a lot. In addition to some great new neighbors, we got a brand new parking lot and drainage system that will ensure a dry basement at the church. Again the finances at Mindekirken are at a stage to be concerned about. As you can read in the Treasurers report we ended the last completed month (November) with an alarmingly big deficit. At this point we pray and hope that the Christmas will once again bring out the good will so that we can once again end the year on a financially even keel. In advance, thanks for your generosity. Next year looks like a big year of change for
Mindekirken. Pastor Dale and his family will return to Norway no later than
November 1, 2005. The search for a new pastor has started. Next, Jim Reilly, who
has held the position of both Organist and Choir Director for a number of years,
will retire in August 2005. We have begun that search as well. It might be
unrealistic to find someone to take both these positions, so in the future we
might see these positions split between two people. What else, you might ask. Well the New Year will bring you a new Congregational Council with a new President of the Congregation. The Nomination Committee is hard at work finding suitable candidates for all the elected offices. The annual meeting of the Congregation will be Sunday February 6, 2005. Good luck to you all and Happy New Year! |
