President’s message – May 2005 If I have to choose just one, Easter is my favorite holiday. This year’s Lenten season and Easter morning was yet another meaningful and beautiful event at Mindekirken. The book study, the concert, the Tuesday Open House events, the Seder, the beautiful church decorations and flowers and the Easter breakfast all took the hard work and talents of many people – A big thank you to everyone! This Easter was especially sweet because we were able to hear our organ again after several weeks of repair. After 70+ years, the old leather bellows were starting to dry out and crack. Only a piece of tape and the grace of God were holding it together. Thanks to the generosity of the LEIF committee and supporters, we were able to go ahead with this, the most critical repairs. Now we will move on to the next stage and we need your help. In preparation for this month’s celebration of Mindekirken’s 75th anniversary of the church dedication, we look back on that special day and read newspaper accounts of the visiting dignitaries, processionals and music. After years of temporary locations, it was a proud and happy day for Mindekirken. I can only imagine how the organ music filled the sanctuary and brought the congregation to their feet during that very first opening hymn. What will we see in the next 75 years? Hopefully, a congregation growing in God’s grace. And with your generous gift to the Organ Repair Fund, we will be singing God’s praises to the strains of our majestic organ. Thank you for your continued support, God bless and have fantastic Syttende Mai, Cindy Peters, Congregation President |
