President’s Message – December 2006 "A community is like a ship; everyone ought to be prepared to take the helm" – Henrik Ibsen The year 2006 marked the centennial of the death of the great Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. I’d like to thank Krista Schweppe, Program Administrator for Mindekirken’s Language and Culture Program for bringing her passion and enthusiasm for Henrik Ibsen to Mindekirken. We’ve joined organizations across the country in exploring Ibsen and his works. Classic Ibsen works have been presented during NLCP Filmaften (movie night) as well as an Ibsen seminar. Ibsen’s ideas are as thought provoking today as when they were first presented. Yes, Ibsen had strong ideas regarding community and society. So I guess I was not too surprised when I first read the above quote. This fall, there seemed to be quite a few people willing to take the helm of our local government. Those tough choices have been made, but now Mindekirken will be looking to our members to fill leadership positions on the council and as representatives to various organizations. Church officers, Deacons and Trustees – not easy jobs, but Mindekirken’s future depends on these dedicated, hard-working people – willing to accept the call. Prayerfully consider accepting a nomination if contacted. A Norwegian Christmas is truly a heart-warming experience. Don’t miss Mindekirken’s Cookie Sale, Santa Lucia pageant and Juletre fest sponsored by Klubb 500. Traditional Christmas Eve and Day services are sure to bring the Norwegian Christmas spirit to our little corner of the world. See details in this issue for days and times. God Jul og Godt Nytt År!
