I’m
writing this message while looking out over the mountains and fjords of Norway.
It’s been a wonderful trip, visiting relatives and friends.
Pastor Dale and Trude send their warmest greetings to everyone. We
started our trip out with a good start – a visit to Eidsvoll Bygningen.
A ‘must see’ for Norwegians and visitors alike, I was glad for the
chance to see where Norway’s constitution got its start.
Bente, our knowledgeable guide, led us on a tour of this national
landmark. Carsten Anker, owner of
the house and local industry man, was host to a group of men selected from
throughout the land to represent what would become the country of Norway. Bente
explained how each room was used and the part it played during those vital
months leading up to what is referred to as Syttende Mai.
Finally, the highlight of the tour – with flourish she opened the doors
to the hall where 112 men met for months before finally putting their signature
and seal to the document that would be the foundation for Norway’s government.
It was a relatively simple room, with benches lining the walls, but one
could almost feel the determination and energy of the ‘Eidsvoll Men’ as they
wrangled with the tough job they had set before themselves.
It was amazing to hear that the youngest among them was only 17 years
old. It
was an inspirational visit and reminded me that no really important task comes
easy. Mindekirken’s Call Committee
has reached important milestones and the Planning Team continues to meet to work
on topics that will shape the future of Mindekirken. There will be questions and
hard discussions. But guided by
prayer and God’s word – and yes, a fair amount of determination, I believe
we will be successful. Yours
in Christ, Cindy
