"Ja, vi elsker" The month of May brings everyone’s thoughts to one of Norway’s strongest traditions – Syttende Mai, Norway’s Constitution Day. Of all the traditions, this day seems to have the strongest pull on Norwegians, their proud descendents and the ‘Norsk at heart’. Be sure to join the Syttende Mai celebrations at Mindekirken on May 14th. People come dressed in their best, whether it’s their Sunday clothes or the traditional Norwegian costume called a bunad. It’s hard to imagine Syttende Mai without singing the Norwegian national anthem ‘Ja, vi elsker’. Come experience for yourself the feeling of pride when we sing both the Norwegian and American national anthems, again illustrating Mindekirken’s commitment to maintaining ties between our two countries. On Syttende Mai and on every Sunday, we have a group of dedicated volunteers who make the worship and fellowship experience at Mindekirken so special. One group of hardworking people is the Kitchen Committee. In addition to their usual responsibilities, the Kitchen Committee has been a steady supporter of Kirkekaffe, stepping in when there have been no volunteers to prepare and serve church coffee. In addition to their usual kitchen project responsibilities, this has proved to be too much. We will be sure to keep the coffee pot on, but we need volunteers to prepare and serve refreshments. Please contact either the church office at 612-874-0716 or send an email to churchcoffee@mindekirken.org if you can take a Sunday or if you have questions. Yours in Christ, Cindy M. Hatlevik
