October 2006

They say it takes a village to raise a child. I think it could also be said that it takes a congregation and then some to bring a pastor and his family from Norway. "Tusen Takk" to all of you who have worked and continue to help with all those practical and important details of moving and setting up a home. An added note of thanks to Robert Hanson, chair of the Call Committee, and his wife Natalie who have been so generous and such a steady support.

The Reverend David Wangaard installed Pastor Vik on Sunday, September 10th. The ceremony was brief, but as we walked with Pastor Vik to the baptismal font, pulpit and altar, the words spoken went to the very heart of Mindekirken’s spiritual mission. It was a special day for all of us. By now, Sunday School, language classes and Tuesday Open House have all resumed activities.

It leads us into the month of October and the Leiv Eriksson International Festival. For an impressive 19th year, the LEIF Festival is an invitation to a celebration of all things Nordic. It’s a great way to experience and learn something from each of the Nordic countries – in our worship service, in concerts, lectures and a few tasty treats over a good cup of coffee (the beverage without borders). A new addition to this year’s program is a film based on a Henrik Ibsen play, sponsored in part with Mindekirken’s language program. Be sure to mark your calendar for this and all the wonderful events planned for the month of October.
