Will Weaver’s grandfather emigrated from Norway to Minnesota in 1904. In 2017, Will Weaver's son left Minnesota to marry and live in Norway. While “Norwegian-ness” surfaces often in Weaver's short stories and novels, the sudden “return” of Norway to his present life forced a literary reckoning.

About the event
Will Weaver’s grandfather emigrated from Norway to Minnesota in 1904. In 2017, Will Weaver's son left Minnesota to marry and live in Norway. While “Norwegian-ness” surfaces often in Weaver's short stories and novels, the sudden “return” of Norway to his present life forced a literary reckoning. There were secrets on his grandfather’s side. There was a crime against the family that was not to be talked about. Weaver excavates this dark, family time in three linked novels: Power & Light (2023), and Black Dirt and Bright Stars (2025). Justice can never be awarded retroactively, yet there is honor in telling the story--and true joy in experiencing the new Norway.
