About the event
In August of 1862, men who had recently settled across Minnesota answered President Lincoln’s call for more troops to fight the Confederacy. Many of those volunteers were formed into the Eighth Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment where they had extraordinary experiences. Dubbed "Sherman's Woodticks," the men fought a two-front war traveling from Minnesota west to the Yellowstone River and then south through Tennessee to North Carolina. Along the way, the men endured grueling conditions but still engaged to defeat noted foes, such as Sitting Bull and Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest. Join us to hear author Paul Hodnefield describe details about the travels, antics, and experiences of the soldiers who served in Minnesota’s Eighth Volunteer Regiment.
